Do you work on older cottages with earth or rendered walls?
Yes. The important part is measuring each opening on site rather than working from a schedule, because walls of that construction are thick and rarely true, and the frame has to be made to what is actually there. Shaped frames are available where the opening is not a simple rectangle.
Is there an option for a more authentic timber proportion?
A deeper bottom rail is available and it is the single detail that does most for authenticity, because it restores the visual weight a traditional timber sash had at the bottom. Sash horns can be included or left off, and the glazing bars can be set inside the sealed unit or applied externally as astragal bars.
