Sliding sash windows across Buckinghamshire

From the Chiltern villages to the Thames-side towns, Buckinghamshire is the county we work in most. Survey, supply and fitting by our own teams, and supply only if you have a builder already.

What is built in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire holds an unusual concentration of the two things that make sash window work interesting. In the south of the county there are Georgian and early Victorian market towns with tall, formal frontages, and along the Metropolitan line there is Metroland: interwar semi-detached housing built between the wars for commuters, much of it with sliding sashes at the front and a bay to the ground floor. Between the two sit the Chiltern villages, where brick and flint elevations carry smaller openings and a good deal of the housing is inside a conservation area.

What that means for your windows

Those three kinds of house each want something different. A Georgian frontage in Amersham or Marlow needs the panes divided the way they were originally and a slim sightline, or the whole elevation reads wrong from the pavement. A Metroland semi in Chesham or Chalfont St Peter usually wants the bay reinstated properly rather than replaced with a flat run. A Chiltern cottage often has openings that are neither square nor consistent, which is exactly the case where surveying before ordering earns its keep. We measure all of it ourselves on a fitted order.

Two ways to buy in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Buckinghamshire

Which parts of Buckinghamshire do you cover for fitting?

The whole of the south and centre of the county, working outward from Uxbridge. That includes Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, the Chalfonts, Amersham, Chesham, Great Missenden, Wendover, High Wycombe, Marlow, Princes Risborough, Penn, Seer Green, Stoke Poges, Burnham, Taplow, Denham and Haddenham, along with Slough and Uxbridge on the county's edge.

Do you work on houses in Chilterns conservation areas?

Regularly. Much of the housing between Amersham and Wendover sits inside one. Conservation area status does not automatically rule out replacement, but a planning officer will normally want the original proportions kept, so tell us at survey and we will specify the glazing bar layout and colour to suit. Check the position with the local authority before you order, because they are the ones who decide it.
