Sliding sash windows in Hungerford
One long Georgian high street, largely intact, and a canal running behind it. The frontage sets the specification.
What is built in Hungerford
Hungerford is built around a broad high street of Georgian and early Victorian brick frontages, unusually complete and heavily listed, running down to the Kennet and Avon canal and the common beyond. The buildings are tall and formal, with regularly spaced windows in a strong vertical rhythm, and a good number are in commercial or mixed use at ground floor. Away from the high street the town holds Victorian terraces and twentieth century housing on the slopes above.
What that means for your windows
On a street this consistent, an individual replacement is judged against its neighbours rather than on its own merits, and the specification is essentially fixed by what is already there: the pane divisions, the sightline and the colour. Where a building is listed, the local authority decides what is possible and that has to be established before anything is priced. Canal and river frontages also raise exposure, where the tested water tightness figures and the colour matched weather bar earn their place.
Two ways to buy in Hungerford
Hungerford is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Hungerford
Can you make an arched or curved-head window?
Yes. Shaped frames are available including Gothic, swept head and true arch, made to the profile measured at survey. On older frontages the head of an opening is frequently not a straight line, and a shaped frame is what keeps it looking as it was rather than squaring it off.
How do the windows perform against driven rain?
Water tightness is Class 7A at 300 Pa and air permeability is Class 4 at 600 Pa, both classified under BS 6375-1. A weather bar is mechanically joined to the bottom sash and colour matched to the frame, which is the component that throws water off the sill instead of letting it track back into the joint.
