Sliding sash windows across Berkshire

Windsor and Ascot at one end, Newbury and the Kennet valley at the other, and a great deal of Victorian terrace in between. We survey, supply and fit across the county.

What is built in Berkshire

Berkshire runs from dense Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Reading and Slough, through the villa suburbs of Maidenhead and Windsor, to the large detached houses of Ascot, Sunningdale and the Wentworth fringe. West of Reading the character changes again: Newbury, Hungerford and the villages along the Kennet are older and lower, with Georgian brick fronts on the high streets and a lot of listed frontage. Bracknell and its surrounding parishes are the outlier, mostly postwar and later, where sash windows appear as a deliberate choice rather than a replacement of like with like.

What that means for your windows

The practical divide in Berkshire is between houses where the window must match a historic street and houses where it simply has to work well. On a Windsor or Hungerford frontage the proportions and the colour matter more than anything, and any RAL shade or a Farrow and Ball match covers almost every case. On a Reading terrace the priority is usually warmth and street noise, where an A plus rated window and the option of acoustic glass do more for daily life than any detail on the outside. We quote both the same way, from a survey.

Two ways to buy in Berkshire

Berkshire is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Berkshire

Do you cover the whole of Berkshire for installation?

Yes, across all six of its unitary areas. Windsor and Maidenhead, Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell Forest, West Berkshire and Slough are all inside our fitting catchment, and our teams work outward from Uxbridge to reach them.

Can sliding sash windows help with aircraft and road noise?

Acoustic glass is available and it is worth specifying on the exposed elevations of a house under a flight path or on a main road. It is one of four glass options alongside laminated, solar control and obscure, and it can be applied to some windows in a house and not others, which is usually the sensible way to spend it.
