Sliding sash windows in Wendover
A small Chiltern market town under the escarpment, with a high street that has kept its character. We survey, supply and fit here.
What is built in Wendover
Wendover sits at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment below Coombe Hill, and its centre is a compact market town: timber framed and brick buildings along the main streets, a good number of them listed, with Georgian and Victorian frontages filling the gaps. Beyond the centre the town is twentieth century, with interwar and postwar housing spreading toward the station and the Wendover Woods side, and older farmhouses and cottages scattered along the lanes into the hills.
What that means for your windows
Two practical things shape work here. In the centre, the frontages are protected and the specification follows what the local authority will accept, which is usually about keeping pane divisions and slim sightlines. Out on the escarpment side, exposure is the issue: these are elevations that take weather straight off the hill, and the tested numbers are worth knowing. Wind resistance is Class C4 at 1600 Pa, equivalent to gusts around 115mph, with water tightness at Class 7A and a colour matched weather bar joined to the bottom sash.
Two ways to buy in Wendover
Wendover is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Wendover
How do the windows cope with weather coming off the Chilterns?
Wind resistance is Class C4 at 1600 Pa tested to BS EN 12211, which is equivalent to gusts of up to about 115mph. Water tightness is Class 7A at 300 Pa and air permeability is Class 4 at 600 Pa. A weather bar is mechanically joined to the bottom sash and colour matched to the frame, which is the part that throws driven rain clear of the sill.
Do you fit in the protected part of Wendover's high street?
Yes, subject to the local authority's view, which needs settling first where a building is listed or the frontage is protected. Tell us at survey and we will specify the glazing bar layout, sightlines and colour to suit what they are likely to accept.
