Sliding sash windows in Woodstock
A small Georgian stone town beside Blenheim, where the streets are formal and the windows are the pattern that makes them so.
What is built in Woodstock
Woodstock is a compact stone town of Georgian and earlier frontages arranged around its market place and the streets leading to the Blenheim gate, with a very high proportion of listed buildings and a consistent, formal character. Windows are tall and regularly spaced on the principal frontages. Outside the historic core there is nineteenth and twentieth century housing toward Old Woodstock and the Bladon side, where the constraints are conventional.
What that means for your windows
Formality is the whole point of a street like this, which means regularity of the window pattern matters more than any individual detail. A frame that is heavier than its neighbours, or a pane division that does not line through, breaks the rhythm and the eye picks it up immediately. Slim sightlines, matched divisions and a colour chosen against the stone are the specification. Away from the protected streets the ordinary case applies and the decision moves to finish and performance.
Two ways to buy in Woodstock
Woodstock is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Woodstock
Can the sightlines be kept slim enough for a formal frontage?
Slim sightlines are part of what we specify rather than an accident of the product, and on a formal elevation they are the detail that decides whether the replacement reads correctly. Combined with a deeper bottom rail, which restores the visual weight a timber sash had, they are what stops a uPVC window looking heavier than the one it replaced.
Are sash horns available?
Yes, and they can be included or left off depending on what suits the building. On a later Victorian frontage horns are usually right; on an earlier Georgian window they often are not. It is worth deciding deliberately at survey rather than accepting a default, because it is one of the details that dates a window to a period.
