Woking was created by its station and grew fast from the middle of the nineteenth century, leaving substantial Victorian and Edwardian housing around the centre and out toward Horsell, Maybury and St Johns, with tall sash openings and bays as the original pattern. The town centre itself has been heavily rebuilt in the later twentieth century and since, and Old Woking to the south keeps an older, smaller scale core with buildings of considerably greater age.

Questions we get asked in Woking
Can a bay window be replaced without rebuilding it?
In most cases yes, and it is measured as a single unit at survey rather than as separate windows, because the angles and the junctions between frames decide how it looks afterwards. What the surveyor is checking is whether the structure above the bay is being carried by the frames, which changes how the job is sequenced.
What is the difference between splay and box bays?
A splay bay has angled sides running back to the wall; a box bay has square returns, so the sides meet the front at right angles. Both are available, and which one you have is decided by the building rather than by choice. The surveyor records it, because the frames are made to that geometry.
