Sliding sash windows in Cookham
A Thames-side village where the older street frontages carry the character. We survey before ordering, then supply and fit.
What is built in Cookham
Cookham runs along the Thames with a village street of brick, flint and rendered buildings, a number of them listed, and the church and moor at one end. It is the sort of place where the buildings facing the street were built over several centuries and never to a single pattern. Around the historic core the village extends through Cookham Rise and toward Cookham Dean with twentieth century housing on larger plots, much of it detached and set among trees.
What that means for your windows
Riverside villages combine two demands that pull in different directions: the frontage has to suit a protected street, and the building has to cope with damp and driven rain off open water. The specification answers both separately. Colour matching and glazing bar layout handle the appearance, and the tested performance handles the weather, with water tightness at Class 7A and a colour matched weather bar joined to the bottom sash. Where a property sits low near the river, that second half of the specification is not decoration.
Two ways to buy in Cookham
Cookham is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Cookham
Are woodgrain finishes convincing on a village frontage?
Five of the eleven foils give a genuine woodgrain effect rather than a printed look: Golden Oak, Irish Oak, Rosewood, Cream and Crystal White. On a street of painted and stained timber they read far closer than a flat white frame, which is usually the thing that gives a replacement away at a glance.
What glass options are there for a house near the river?
Toughened glass is standard in both sashes. Beyond that there are acoustic, laminated, solar control and obscure options, and they can be mixed across a house rather than applied everywhere. On a riverside elevation solar control on a south facing room and obscure on a bathroom is a common combination.
