Sliding sash windows in Cranleigh

A village that grew into something close to a small town, without ever quite becoming one.

What is built in Cranleigh

Cranleigh spreads along a long high street with Victorian shopfronts and houses, an older core with earlier buildings and the common at one end, and the school buildings that shaped its nineteenth century growth. Around the centre the village has expanded steadily through the twentieth century with conventional detached and semi-detached housing, and the surrounding parish holds farmhouses and cottages of considerably greater age on the lanes into the Surrey Hills.

What that means for your windows

A long, low high street means most of the housing is two storey and the window is a large proportion of each elevation, which puts more weight on getting the proportion right than a taller building would. Beyond the centre this is straightforward twentieth century stock where the case is performance: A plus rating, 1.3 W/m²K as standard, and both sashes tilting inwards for cleaning, which people use far more often than they expect to.

Two ways to buy in Cranleigh

Cranleigh is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Cranleigh

Are these windows any good in a house with low ceilings?

The proportion of the window is made to the opening, so a lower opening gets a window designed for it rather than a standard one cut down. Where the head of the opening is low, keeping the bar layout simple and the sightlines slim is what stops the window looking heavy, and the surveyor will advise on that against the actual building.

Is there anything I need to do before the fitting day?

Clear access to the openings is the main thing: furniture moved back, blinds and curtains taken down, and any alarm sensors attached to the frames dealt with beforehand. That is all that is needed, and it makes the difference between a day that runs and one that stops.
