Sliding sash windows in Crowthorne
A village that grew up around a college and a hospital, in pine country on the Berkshire and Surrey border.
What is built in Crowthorne
Crowthorne is essentially a Victorian creation, developed around Wellington College and Broadmoor after both arrived in the mid nineteenth century, and its older housing is late Victorian and Edwardian: solid brick villas and terraces, many with sash windows originally, set among the pines that characterise this sandy corner of Berkshire. Around that core there is substantial interwar and postwar housing, and more recent development toward the Bracknell side.
What that means for your windows
Victorian and Edwardian villa stock is where a sash replacement pays back visually, because the openings are tall and the elevation was designed around them. On this stock the pane divisions and a deeper bottom rail do most of the work, and a woodgrain foil suits the brick better than a flat white. The practical gain is warmth: these are solid walled houses with high ceilings, and an A plus rated window with a 1.3 W/m²K U-value as standard is a meaningful change in a room like that.
Two ways to buy in Crowthorne
Crowthorne is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.
1.3 W/m²K as standard, 1.2 with enhanced glazing.

Questions we get asked in Crowthorne
Is a woodgrain finish more expensive to maintain than white?
No. The foils are a surface finish on the frame rather than a coating that needs recoating, so maintenance is washing them down. That is one of the practical reasons people choose a woodgrain foil over painted timber on a house where the original windows needed repainting every few years.
Do the windows come with restrictors as standard?
Travel restrictors are standard, and key operated restrictors that limit the opening to 100mm are available where you want a hard limit on an upstairs room. Jam blocks at the top of the sash and high security cam locks are also standard, with one lock up to 799mm and two at 800mm and above.
