Sliding sash windows in Farnborough
A town built around aviation and the army, with dense Victorian terraces from the period when both arrived.
What is built in Farnborough
Farnborough expanded rapidly in the late nineteenth century as the military and then the aviation establishment grew, and the housing built for that expansion is the backbone of the older town: streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, modest in scale, originally with sliding sashes throughout. Around them there is extensive interwar and postwar development, and continued redevelopment near the town centre and the business park.
What that means for your windows
Terraced housing of this period is consistent, which makes it satisfying to work on: the same pattern repeats along the street, so reinstating the original pane divisions on one house is visible against its neighbours immediately. These are also solid walled and cold, and an A plus rating with a 1.3 W/m²K U-value as standard is a real change in a small room. The airfield and the main roads make acoustic glass worth pricing on the affected elevations.
Two ways to buy in Farnborough
Farnborough is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.
- Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
- Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.
1.3 W/m²K as standard, 1.2 with enhanced glazing.
Secured by Design available, satisfying Document Q.
Equivalent to gusts of up to around 115mph.
Plus our workmanship where we have fitted them.
Questions we get asked in Farnborough
Can you match the other houses in a Victorian terrace?
That is usually the aim, and the variables are the pane division, the sightline, whether sash horns are present and the colour. All four are specified per order and recorded at survey against what is actually on the neighbouring houses, so the result lines through with the rest of the row rather than standing out from it.
How disruptive is the work inside the house?
Openings are worked on one at a time rather than the whole house being opened up together, and the old window comes out and the new one goes in within the same visit to that opening. The internal plaster line is made good afterwards to a standard you can decorate over, and the old frames leave with us.
