What is built in Hampshire
Our Hampshire work concentrates in the north and centre of the county. Winchester has the oldest and most protected stock, with Georgian and earlier frontages in the centre and Victorian villa streets spreading out from it. Farnborough and Aldershot's surrounding streets are largely late Victorian, built around the military expansion, and are dense, terraced and well suited to sash replacement. Basingstoke is mixed, with an older core and a great deal of postwar development around it. Alton, Petersfield, Odiham and Hartley Wintney keep small Georgian high streets with brick and tile-hung frontages behind them.
What that means for your windows
Winchester and the older villages need the conservation conversation first, because the planning position drives the specification and there is no point pricing a window that will not be accepted. Elsewhere in north Hampshire the driver is more often performance: these are exposed sites on the downs, and wind resistance tested to Class C4 at 1600 Pa, which is equivalent to gusts of around 115mph, is worth having on a west facing elevation. Air permeability is Class 4 and water tightness Class 7A, which in plain terms means the frame does not whistle or let water track in.

Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Hampshire
Do you fit sash windows in Winchester's conservation areas?
Yes, and it starts with the planning position rather than the window. Tell us at survey that the property is listed or in a conservation area, and we will specify the glazing bar layout, the sightlines and the colour to suit what the local authority is likely to accept. Confirm the position with them directly, because the decision is theirs and we would not want you relying on us for it.
How do the windows perform on an exposed downland site?
Wind resistance is Class C4 at 1600 Pa, tested to BS EN 12211, which is equivalent to gusts of up to about 115mph. Air permeability is Class 4 at 600 Pa and water tightness is Class 7A at 300 Pa, all classified under BS 6375-1. A weather bar is mechanically joined to the bottom sash and colour matched, which is what pushes driven rain off the sill instead of into the frame.
