Sash windows supplied to Harrogate

A Victorian spa town of stone villas and formal terraces facing the Stray.

The sash stock in Harrogate

Harrogate is a Victorian creation built on the spa trade, and its housing reflects the confidence of that period: substantial stone and brick villas, formal terraces facing the Stray, and the Montpellier and Duchy areas with their generous plots and tall, well proportioned windows. Around the centre there are Edwardian and interwar suburbs, and conservation areas cover much of the older core.

What we supply, and how it works

Victorian villa windows are tall and their proportions were designed around a heavy timber bottom rail, which is the detail most often lost when they are replaced and the one that makes a modern window look like it is floating in the opening. A deeper bottom rail addresses it directly, and sash horns are usually correct on stock of this date. Against stone, a woodgrain foil generally sits better than a flat white frame.

This is a supply arrangement. You send a schedule of sizes, the windows are made to measure to it, and they are delivered kerbside to your address in Harrogate for your own contractor to put in. The sizes are yours, because the windows are built to the schedule you provide and nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked about Harrogate

What is a deeper bottom rail and why does it matter?

It is a taller bottom section on the lower sash, which restores the visual weight a traditional timber window had at its base. Without it a replacement can look like it is floating in the opening, and on a tall Victorian window that is the single most common thing that reads as wrong.

Do you supply single windows or only whole houses?

A single window is supplied on the same basis as a full house. What does not change with a small order is the lead time or the delivery arrangement, so it is worth grouping work where you can, and worth keeping the written specification so later orders match the first.

Other cities we deliver to

Delivery reaches the whole of Great Britain, so a city not listed here is still covered. See how supply-only orders work, or the areas where our own teams also handle the fitting.
