Sliding sash windows in Slough

A big stock of interwar semis and Victorian terraces, and a lot of landlords and builders. Both services run here.

What is built in Slough

Slough's housing was shaped by the trading estate and the railway. There are Victorian terraces in Chalvey and around Upton with the original sash pattern still readable on the older frontages, and then a very large stock of 1930s semi-detached houses built during the town's interwar expansion, which is the dominant type across most of the borough. Later estates fill in around them. It is a dense, working town with a high proportion of rented and multiply occupied property.

What that means for your windows

Two things follow from that mix. The 1930s semis were built with a specific window pattern, usually divided panes above a clear pane, and reinstating it is what stops a replacement flattening the whole street. And a lot of Slough work is trade work, so the supply-only lane gets heavy use here: a schedule of sizes, colour and glass chosen, delivery kerbside, and the buyer's own fitter on site. Acoustic glass is worth pricing on anything near the main roads or the rail corridor.

Two ways to buy in Slough

Slough is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Slough

Can you price a block of rental properties in one go?

Yes. Send one schedule covering every property or plot and it is priced as a whole, including phased delivery to site. That applies to supply-only orders and to fitted work, and a landlord with several properties in the borough is exactly the case it is designed for.

What can be done about railway and road noise?

Acoustic glass is available and it is the single most effective option on a noisy frontage. It can be specified on the elevations that need it rather than the whole house, which is usually the sensible way to spend it, and it combines with the made to measure fit that stops sound leaking round the frame.
