Sliding sash windows in Windsor

A town where a great deal of the frontage is protected and the window is a large part of what is being protected.

What is built in Windsor

Windsor's centre is dominated by Georgian and Victorian brick frontages set around the castle and the older streets below it, much of it listed or in a conservation area, with tall formal windows and a strong vertical proportion. Out toward Clewer and Dedworth the character shifts to Victorian and Edwardian terraces built for people working in the town, and then to interwar and postwar housing on the western edge, where the constraints are ordinary and the openings are regular.

What that means for your windows

In the protected centre the specification is a conversation with the local authority before it is a conversation about hardware, and the parts that matter to them are the pane divisions, the sightlines and the colour. All three can be set: Georgian bars or external astragal bars, slim frames, and any classic RAL shade or a Farrow and Ball match. Out in the Victorian terraces the brief changes to warmth and noise, and acoustic glass on a road frontage is usually the option that changes daily life most.

Two ways to buy in Windsor

Windsor is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Windsor

Are these windows accepted in Windsor conservation areas?

That depends on the specific area and the property, and the local authority decides it rather than us. What we can do is specify to whatever they will accept: glazing bar layout to match the original pane divisions, slim sightlines, external astragal bars where a closer match is wanted, and a colour matched to a heritage shade. Establish their position before ordering.

Can I see the test certificates for the windows?

Yes, and they are downloadable from the homepage without filling in a form. Declarations of Performance cover BS EN 14351 for the windows, BS EN 1279 for the sealed units and BS EN 12150 for the toughened glass, all dated 28 November 2025. Production is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
