Sliding sash windows in Sunninghill

An older village core next door to Ascot, with a mix of periods along the high street. We survey, supply and fit here.

What is built in Sunninghill

Sunninghill keeps a recognisable village centre with a high street of mixed period frontages, including Victorian shopfronts and houses and a scatter of earlier buildings, which gives it an older feel than Ascot immediately to the south. Around that core the parish is largely twentieth century, with detached and semi-detached housing on wooded plots and a continuation of the large house stock that characterises this part of Berkshire.

What that means for your windows

A high street of mixed periods is a place where a window has to sit next to its neighbours rather than match a single template, and the useful levers are the finish and the bar layout rather than the frame itself. The five woodgrain foils read closest to painted or stained timber, and where the elevation is more formal, a slimmer sightline with the original pane divisions keeps the proportion. On the later housing behind the street, the ordinary performance case applies and the specification is simpler.

Two ways to buy in Sunninghill

Sunninghill is inside the area our own fitting teams cover, so you can have the whole job done by one company. You can also buy the windows on their own if you have a builder already, which is how most trade customers order.

  • Supplied and fitted. We survey your openings before anything is ordered, so the sizes are our responsibility rather than yours. Our own teams fit, take the old windows away and make good the plaster line, and you get a FENSA certificate and an insurance-backed guarantee on completion.
  • Supplied only. You send a schedule of sizes, choose the colour, glass, hardware and glazing bar layout, and the windows are delivered kerbside for your own fitter. Popular with builders, developers, self-builders and landlords. On a supply-only order the sizes are yours, because nobody from our side has seen the openings.

Questions we get asked in Sunninghill

What is the difference between Georgian bars and astragal bars?

Georgian bars sit inside the sealed unit, so the outside face of the glass is flat and there is nothing external to maintain. Astragal bars are applied to the outside of the glass and give a closer match to a traditional divided window because they cast a shadow line. On a formal frontage the astragal bar usually looks more convincing; on a plainer house the internal bar is the practical choice.

How is the old window removed and made good?

On a fitted job the old windows are taken out and removed from site, and the internal plaster line is made good to a standard you can decorate over. Redecoration itself is not included, so the painting is yours, but you are not left with an edge that needs plastering first.
