Royal Tunbridge Wells grew as a spa and then as a Victorian resort, and both phases left their mark: the Regency development around the Pantiles and Calverley Park with its stuccoed and tile hung villas, and then an extensive belt of Victorian and Edwardian houses spreading across the hills, many of them substantial, tile hung and generously windowed. Conservation areas cover a considerable part of the older town.
What we supply, and how it works
Tile hanging is the local characteristic and it changes what looks right, because a hard white frame reads as an intrusion against a soft clay tile elevation in a way it does not against brick. The woodgrain foils, five of the eleven, are usually the answer, with the colour chosen against the tile rather than from a swatch. On the Regency frontages the emphasis shifts back to slim sightlines and matched divisions.
This is a supply arrangement. You send a schedule of sizes, the windows are made to measure to it, and they are delivered kerbside to your address in Tunbridge Wells for your own contractor to put in. The sizes are yours, because the windows are built to the schedule you provide and nobody from our side has seen the openings.
What you control on the specification
- Colour.Eleven foils, five of them with a genuine woodgrain effect, plus any classic RAL shade sprayed or a Farrow & Ball colour matched. Dual colour available, so inside and outside need not agree.
- Glass. Toughened in both sashes as standard, with acoustic, laminated, solar control and obscure available and specified per window.
- Detailing. Deeper bottom rail, sash horns included or omitted, Georgian bars inside the sealed unit or external astragal bars, and shaped frames including Gothic, swept head and true arch.
- Hardware. Eight finishes including Antique Gold, with inset finger pulls and D handles as options.

Which finishes suit a tile-hung elevation?
The woodgrain foils generally, because the texture sits with the clay rather than against it. Golden Oak, Irish Oak, Rosewood, Cream and Crystal White are the five that give a genuine woodgrain effect. Beyond them, any classic RAL shade can be sprayed and Farrow and Ball colours matched.
How is the order confirmed before manufacture?
You get a written quotation setting out the schedule of sizes and the full specification, covering colour, glass, hardware finish and glazing bar layout, with the lead time stated. Nothing is put into production until that is agreed, because a made to measure window is built to what is on it.
